Color behaves differently in Miami light. Strong sun washes out pale exterior colors and fades dark ones, and inside, daylight off water, tile and greenery shifts how a color reads. We put samples on your own walls. For exteriors we start with your HOA's approved list, or the City of Coral Gables color review if you live there.
Light in Miami is bright and high in the sky for most of the year, and it changes how paint looks. Outdoors, strong sun washes out pale colors, so an off white chosen from a small chip can look plain white on a full wall. Deep, saturated exterior colors fade sooner on the south and west sides. Indoors, daylight bounces off tile floors, pool water and green planting and pushes wall colors warmer or cooler than they looked in the store.
So we choose colors on your walls, not on a screen. We talk through what stays in the room or on the house: floor tile, roof tile, pavers, counters, window frames and furniture. Then we narrow the choice to a few colors and put large samples on the actual surface, in sun and in shade. You look at them in the morning, at midday and at night under your own lamps. We also settle the sheen for each surface, since gloss level changes how a color reads.
Outside, rules often come before taste. Many Miami communities and condo buildings have an approved list of exterior colors, and the City of Coral Gables reviews exterior paint colors and publishes pre-approved ones. Homes in historic districts can have their own review. We start from whatever list applies to your address and work inside it. When the choice is made, we write down the paint maker, color name, number and sheen for every surface, so the record is there for approvals and for future touch-ups.

Color consulting in Miami: common questions
Why does my exterior color look lighter than the sample?

Full sun does that. Bright light washes color out, so on a large sunny wall most colors read a step or two lighter than the chip. That is why we test large samples outside before the order is placed.
Do dark colors hold up on a Miami house?
They fade faster than light and mid tones, most of all on walls facing south and west. Dark walls also get hotter in the sun. If you want a deep color, ask us which pigments and paint lines hold color better, and consider using it as an accent.
Can you help with my HOA color application?
Yes. We give you the paint maker, color names and numbers and the sheen for each surface, which is what most associations ask for. The application itself is the owner's to submit, and approval should be in writing before we start.
